Adding a faux finish to a wall can be a tricky process to  master, but the end result can transform your interior into a singular space. The key, of course, is to perform that process correctly or you can wind up with an expensive mess that leaves your walls a ruin and your pocketbook lighter because of the cost of that wasted paint and associated supplies. If you want to achieve a designer look for your walls, we have experience applying faux finishes to walls and other surfaces. If you are planning to paint your walls, the following are a few finish options that can take your interior walls from ordinary to extraordinary.

Sponging

Sponging is one of the most popular methods used for finishing a paint job. Sponging is normally achieved with a sea sponge and may involve two or more colors sponged atop your main coat of paint. Applying multiple sponged layers helps you create a sense of depth for your walls. Variations in hues lend visual interest to your walls. You can opt for subtle sponging with colors that are very close to the same shade or go for a more dramatic look that employs great different but complementary hues.

Venetian Plaster

Achieving the look of Venetian plaster can bring old-world charm to your décor. This time-honored look never goes out of style, so it’s a great option to consider when you’re making over your living room, dining room, or bedroom walls. A faux Venetian plaster finish involves a slightly multidimensional look. The finish should be slightly textured, raised, and subtlety mimics the look of stucco. It typically requires two or more coats to achieve the desired result.

Concrete Faux Finish

The industrial-chic look is greatly in vogue and has many people practicing tutorials for creating a concrete faux finish for their walls. Typically, this type of finish involves multiple paint colors: gray, white, and black. A glaze applied by a plaster blade helps to achieve the concrete effect. A concrete faux finish is not an overly difficult finish to master, but each color must be applied strategically for the proper end result to be achieved.

Faux Suede Finish

The look of brushed faux suede can add a rich note to any room. This designer finish is usually achieved with a matte, textured paint. The texture must be quite subtle in order to have that “soft-to-the-touch” look of suede. The brushed technique should leave your walls looking velvety–not bumpy, which is one of the pitfalls of performing this technique incorrectly. Today, there are specially formulated paints for a suede finish that can make this look more easily manageable.

Strie Finish

A strie finish is appears quite intricate, so it is definitely going to attract the eye with its tell-tale striping. This technique will leave your walls looking as if they’ve been adorned with fabric rather than paint–almost like wallpaper. Careful brush strokes and a paint-glaze mixture will help you achieve your desired look. This sophisticated finish is a great way to update the look of any room.
