2.1 paintSpring is a terrific time to plan and achieve a painting project, but it is important take care with all aspects of your project and to learn how to avoid some common mistakes. Although you can always contact us for assistance with your painting project, you can manage much of the work with these tips in mind. By avoiding these common painting mistakes, your project is sure to be a success.

Poor Preparation

Failing to prepare your walls prior to painting can lead to a poor paint job. Paint will not adhere well or smoothly to dirty walls. Before priming your walls, be sure to make any repairs your walls may need and to clean them thoroughly. Be sure to let your clean walls dry thoroughly before applying primer and paint.

Skipping the Primer

Without a priming coat, your paint’s color is unlikely to shine through. A surface that has been primed allows paint to stick more readily to your wall. While priming is an extra step, be sure to remember that it is an essential step. These days, however, you can also find self-priming paints that may be more expensive, but save you the step of applying an extra priming coat.

Inferior Applicators

Good paint doesn’t come cheap, but you may find inexpensive brushes and applicators on the market. It’s important to avoid them. After spending a small fortune on paint, you don’t want to risk your paint job with inferior applicators that aren’t design to give you the professional results you crave.

Skipping the Painter’s Tape

Painting tape allows you to achieve professional edges. Crisp edges are a sign of a carefully wrought paint job. If you skip the tape, you’re apt to get inferior results and possibly some very messy woodwork. To spare your woodwork and other surfaces, be sure to invest in plenty of painter’s tape.

Failing to Protect Surroundings

If you have ever painted before, you know that painting is a messy job. You can greatly reduce the mess and protect expensive or beloved furnishings by taking time to prepare the room for your project. Use painting tarps and protective coverings to protect your furniture, flooring, and carpets. It’s ideal to remove furniture from the room you intend to paint and cover the entire floor with a drop cloth.

A great paint job can refresh your living space. However, you don’t want to allow your paint job to appear amateurish by making any of these mistakes. If you have questions or you’d prefer a professional to handle the job, you can always contact us for any questions or if you need any help. A professional paint job may be more costly than doing it yourself, but it can lead to incredible results.

Please contact us with any questions. We would be happy to give an estimate on the job.
